Our Mission

Real people doing real science for a real purpose

Our mission is to work with voluntary stewards to monitor water quality and other indicators of watershed health and utilize this high quality data to educate citizens and inform decision makers about the condition of Colorado’s waters. This data is also used in the Clean Water Act decision-making process.

Since 1989 River Watch has had two primary goals:
1) Provide a hands-on real science experience learning the value and function of Colorado’s River and water ecosystems
2) Generate quality aquatic habitat over space and time for use in Clean Water Act, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, watershed, local and other decision making processes

  1. What equipment, materials and supplies are supplied by Earth Force or River Watch to volunteers? Are there instruments, like multi-parameter sondes?

    1. The only instruments the volunteers use is a pH meter. Metals and nutrients are analyzed at a lab with machines and professionals. This is by design considering all the elements of our program and goals.
